We decided on the untraditional name of "Ace" for our baby boy due this Spring. This is our first child (no other siblings yet). We need help picking a middle name that is modern but a bit more classic in nature, bonus points if the name has gaelic / irish heritage but phonetically can be translated to something (hopefully meaningful!) in Chinese. We're Irish & Chinese.

Like:

Ace Rowan (Ru+Wen)

Ace Dean (Di+An)

Ace Grey

Ace Reid

Ace Brooks

Dislike:

Ace James (while I like the way it sounds ... James is a bit too boring / bland)

Ace Parker

Ace Kian (example of an irish name that just doesn't seem to work)

I would definitely go for a middle name with more than 1 syllable.

Ace Julian, Ace Kieran, Ace Lucas, Ace Declan, Ace Nolan, Ace Benjamin, Ace Gavin, Ace Griffin

I was aiming for a short middle name because our last name is 3 syllables & I didn't want his full name to be such a mouthful. I may also be biased because my first and (maiden) last name combined are just 7 letters ... I love having a short name!

Name Aficionado

I second Greyson’s recommendation that you pick a middle name of two or more syllables.

I don’t like Ace with any of the Gaelic names on my list, unfortunately.

Ace Ezra

Ace Patrick

Ace Odin

Ace Magnus

Ace reminds me of Ace Ventura Pet Detective but maybe most people won't get the reference?

Glad to know other Ace's exist ... my husband is starting to second guess the name because whenever we mention it to someone their initial reaction is "really?"

Ace McKenzie. That’s what came immediately to mind.

I don’t really like any of the Irish male names as a middle name for Ace. It doesn’t flow very well.

Ace Brian.

Ace Patrick.

Ace Sullivan.

It’s just ... a lot.

Anyways, Ace McKenzie works. It’s an Irish name and it goes very well with the name you’ve decided on.

Unfortunately our last name has a similar start to McKenzie, so won't work!
